18 months of being a missionary

As of tomorrow, I've officially served the Lord for 18 months as his missionary. It's crazy to think it's been so long! I feel like time is really starting to speed up. I only have 1/3 of the time I have spent here left. I'm doing my best to make it all count!

So these last 3 weeks have been interesting. The last 2 weeks of the transfer were filled with exchanges. It's been a lot of fun though so I've enjoyed it.

Big updates:
Had a couple lessons with Jean and tried to get him to church. His big question right now is trying to understand that God has a physical body but we're working with him and he's still interested in learning and coming to church when we can get him a ride.

We've been teaching a man named Nouman. He lives in Pakistan and is amazing! He found Elder Lowe online and has been in contact with missionaries in the past. Months ago Elder Gurr (a Spanish missionary in my district) sent him the Book of Mormon. Nouman told us how he has been using personal money to print and hand distribute the BOM to anyone who is interested. Nouman is amazing and loves learning so much!! We're doing our best to help him find missionaries out there but it's been a challenge.

I exchanged with the Spanish elders which is super fun. I learned how to say little testimonies with the help of an MTC book ha-ha.

We had Zone conference and President McGinn talked about how to have an effective missionary Coordination meeting. It was awesome because I had chosen to train on that a couple transfers ago so it was fresh on my mind. They are something not discussed a lot in the church but they are super helpful and important for us missionaries when done right.

I've exchanged with both the English elders in the district and shown them what French work is like which has been very fun. They are both such hard workers and I love them!

I also went to the ZL's area and we were looking for online referrals. One of them happened to be a Swahili speaker and it was awesome to be able to help their work move quicker and get this family to the right missionaries.

We've taught Alenge a couple times too. He is so great and desires to learn more. There has been a lot of deaths in the community which causes them to go to funeral events around the country. So we've taken that chance to discuss the spirit world and the peace that comes through prayer. We've also talked about Joseph Smith and he has enjoyed learning. We're hoping he can finally come to church next week for the first time.

We went to the temple to do baptisms for the dead with a new member named Ruberwa and had a group of 10 members either somewhat recently baptized or recently moved and it was so great! Everyone seemed to have a good time and it was very spiritually uplifting. Ruberwa also went to a new member fireside the next day. He's so down to learn and grow and it's awesome!

I had the opportunity to perform my first baptismal interview in Swahili last week. It was stressful but I could feel the gift of tongues working in me. It wasn't perfect by any means but it was good and he is ready. His name is Furahisha and will be baptized on the 25th. His wife after church yesterday also asked to get baptized with him so I'll hopefully go over tomorrow to do another one ha-ha.

Transfers happened. We are getting 3 new missionaries on Wednesday and I'm very excited to meet them. Elder Lundgreen is training so now all 3 of the other companionships in my district are training which is super fun! I'm also staying here in FR N with Elder Lowe and am the district leader still.

There is a tabernacle choir concert in Florida on the 7th and we've been inviting everyone we see to come and watch it livestreamed with us. They made some great pass along cards to give out too!

We taught Kasongo, he used to take lessons in the past but fell off. He seems really interested now. We read 3 Nephi 11 with him and it was awesome!

We met again a man named Christophe. He came to church when I was in my last area and seemed pretty cool. We didn't have much time but we were able to teach a quick lesson and give him a book.

In all it's been a good few weeks. I'm always trying to work harder because I see all of my short comings. Writing emails and such does help me recognize my growth which has been great. Something I'm working on a lot right now is the concept of self mastery. It's been fun to study and grow by building control over impulses and to look towards a greater goal.

Have a great week! Love you all!
