On Wednesday we met with a man named Fikiri. He's super cool and loves everything
we teach him. He already believes in Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon!! It
happened a lot quicker than usual which surprised me haha. But he's very cool
and we sang some Swahili hymns with him which he loved. Now we need him to come
to church and see what it's all about.
Thursday
we had Dinner with Bishop Cease which was great! Their family is so fun and
they all run cross country. We had a great discussion about the personal
lessons from the restoration. It was awesome to get to know them better.
Friday
we met with some people who progressed really far in the past but kind of fell
off. Their names are Feza and Amina. They are both 18 and live just a few
blocks away. They both say they want to start talking with us again and
learning more. And Feza is going to teach us how to make Mandazi, which is
basically an African beignet!
Saturday
was great! We met with two inactive members who are both so amazing but just
have a hard time making it to church. We're hoping to maybe bring them to
lessons with our friends so they can share their testimonies. Oh and we also
met with Ogino the amazing Haitian member. He's so cool and said he wants Elder
Shumate to marry a girl from Haiti. He gave him a number of someone to call
haha.
Then
Sunday! First Rossi received the Aaronic priesthood and even brought his mom
along to watch! It was so good to see her there supporting him even though she
isn't really interested in changing churches. And then as we're singing the
sacrament hymn guess who walked in?? None other than the amazing Tangente. I
don't know what pushed him to come to church without us saying anything but it
was so awesome to see! We're finally going to meet with him again this
Wednesday and I literally cannot wait!!
So a
pretty full week! I definitely enjoy missionary work, even with its
disappointments and difficulties. I love these people and I love just learning
who they are and how much they love God.
With
come follow me these past weeks I've loved reading the Acts of the Apostles.
Paul's story is especially amazing because, just like Alma the younger, the
worst of the worst can become the best of the best through God. I promise that
he is always there for you.
Elder Baird.
